Byen Calafate ligger omkring 300 km fra byen Rio Gallegos, som er hovedstaden i provinsen Santa Cruz i Argentina.
Calafate er opkaldt efter en lille busk som er hyppig i området og som har smukke gule blomster og lilla frugter.
